Bonding a cracked or uneven tooth

Bonding is a tooth-colored plastic material that we shape onto your tooth. A special light hardens the material and bonds it to the tooth.

We use bonding to:

  • repair a cracked or decayed tooth
  • fill a cavity
  • change the shape or size of a tooth, so your teeth look more even
  • protect parts of a tooth that receding gums have left exposed

Porcelain veneers for the front of your teeth

Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin shells of tooth-colored material, made for your teeth and bonded to their front surfaces. A veneer can change a tooth’s color, shape, size or length.

We recommend veneers when:

  • your teeth are discolored and whitening cannot fix it
  • your teeth are damaged
  • you are unhappy with the shape or look of your natural teeth

Veneers are a permanent change. We treat any decay or gum disease first. Then we remove a small amount of enamel from the front and sides of each tooth to make room for the shell, so the treatment cannot be reversed.

Porcelain crowns for a badly damaged tooth

When a filling is not enough, a porcelain crown fits over the tooth and is attached to it, so you can bite and chew with that tooth again. Porcelain crowns look like natural teeth.

We use a porcelain crown when:

  • decay has gone too far to fill
  • a tooth is severely damaged
  • a tooth has already had several fillings

There are several types of porcelain crown, and we will talk with you about which one suits your tooth.

Planning a smile makeover with you

A smile makeover combines cosmetic treatments to change how your teeth look. We offer teeth whitening, veneers and dental implants, among other treatments.

Every makeover is different. At your exam, we look at the color of your teeth and how they line up, and we check for teeth that are missing, cracked, chipped or broken. Then we talk through what you want and what your teeth need, and we plan treatment with you for healthy teeth that look bright and line up well.

Straightening your teeth with Invisalign

If you would like straighter teeth without brackets or wires, we offer Invisalign, a series of clear, removable aligners made for your teeth.

Replacing teeth you have lost

If you are missing teeth, we provide full and partial dentures made to fit your mouth.

If you have lost all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw, All-on-4 treatment is designed to give you a full arch of new teeth on four implants, or more if your mouth needs them.

Full mouth reconstruction when several problems need care

We usually recommend full mouth reconstruction when you have several problems in your mouth at the same time, such as gum disease, discolored teeth, tooth decay and crooked teeth.

Before we start, we examine your mouth and take x-rays to find out which treatments you need. Every mouth is different, so your treatment plan is made for you alone.

Questions patients ask

What is dental bonding used for?

Bonding is a tooth-colored plastic material that we shape onto a tooth and harden with a special light. We use it to repair cracked or decayed teeth, fill cavities, change the shape or size of a tooth so your teeth look more even, and protect parts of a tooth that receding gums have exposed.

Are porcelain veneers reversible?

No. To make room for a porcelain veneer, we remove a small amount of enamel from the front and sides of the tooth, so the treatment cannot be reversed. We treat any decay or gum disease before placing veneers.

What happens before a full mouth reconstruction?

We start with a thorough exam with x-rays to find out which treatments you need. Every mouth is different, so we then write a treatment plan for your mouth alone.
